Abstract
This Act makes provision for the development of fisheries and the protection of fish resources and marine reserves and provides rules relative to fisheries. The provisions of the Act seem to apply only to maritime areas as defined by the Maritime Areas Act 1983. The text is divided into six Parts: Preliminary; Fisheries Management and Development (I); Marine Reserves and Conservation Measures (II); Registration of Local Fishing Vessels (III); Enforcement (IV); General (V).
Part I contains sections on management and development plans (sect. 4), regional cooperation (sect. 5), Fisheries Advisory Committee (sect. 6), fish processing establishments (sect. 17), local fisheries management areas. Part II contains sections on fishing priority areas, marine reserves and prohibited fishing methods (sects. 20-25).
