Abstract
This Act provides for the protection of the environment and for the control of pollution in Zambia. The text consists of 96 sections divided into 12 Parts: Preliminary (I); The Environmental Council (II); Administration (III); Water (IV); Air (V); Waste (VI); Pesticides and Toxic Substances (VII); Noise (VIII); Ionising Radiation (IX); Natural Resources Conservation (X); Inspectorate (XI); General (XII).
The Council shall be established as a body corporate (sect. 3) and shall consist of members who represent various Ministries and (non) governmental organizations (sect. 4). Functions of the Council are set out in section 6. Other responsibilities of the Council with respect to specific sectors are set out in sections 23 (Water), 36 (Air), 49 (Waste), 58 (Pesticides and other toxic substances), 67 (Noise), 72 (Ionising radiation), 76 (Natural resources).
The Council shall also establish an Environmental Inspectorate. Natural Resources shall have the meaning assigned to it in the Natural Resources Act. Other sections relating to a specific sector provide for licence systems, registration (of pesticides) and inspection.

An Act to provide for the protection of the environment and the control of pollution; to establish the Environmental Council and to prescribe the functions and powers of the Council; and to provide for matters connected with or incidental to the foregoing.
Entry into force notes
This Act will come into force upon appointment by the Minister.
