Abstract
This Law establishes the basic legislation for hunting. It consists of 5 chapters specifying the requirements in order to perform hunting activity, establishing protected measures for certain animal species, ranching for animal repopulation in hunting zones, etc. The trade of skins of wild animals and of animals and wild fowls, which are alive, embalmed or killed, must be accompanied with a licence issued by the Forest Authority, entitled to carry out the necessary controls. It specifies prohibited hunting activities and penalties to be paid by offenders. Chapter I defines fauna and authorizes the Institute of Forests and Pastures Research to act as a technical-consultative institution for implementing this Law with the General Directorate of Forests and Pastures and district departments of forest services. Chapter II defines wildlife that can be hunted, areas where hunting is allowed and authorities of the General Directorate of Forests and Pastures in regard to hunting. The Council of Ministers approves the creation of wildlife reserves. Chapter III gives rules and authority to the General Directorate of Forests and Pastures for wildlife management. The Government promotes private investments for protecting and managing wildlife. Chapter IV gives rules for hunting, circumstances when a person is allowed to hunt, the authority of the General Directorate of Forests and Pastures to issue hunting licences and the rights and obligations of hunters. Chapter V provides for dispositions for protecting wildlife. Chapter VI establishes sanctions to be paid for violating the provisions of this Law. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food, based on a proposal of the General Directorate of Forests and Pastures, must issue instructions to implement this Law.
