Law No. 8880 on plant breeders’ rights.

The objective of this Law is the protection of the rights of persons who select, discover and develop new plant varieties. The Law applies to all individuals and legal persons that are citizens of the contracting parties to the international treaties and conventions on plants varieties protection. The Law consists of the following 13 Chapters: (I) General Provisions; (II) Eligibility; (III) Application for selector; (IV) Examination of application; (V) Rights of possessor; (VI) Designation of varieties; (VII) Holding of the selector’s right; (VIII) Termination of the selector’s rights; (IX) Joint ownership, (X) Authorizations by contract; (XI) Offences; (XII) Administrative measures; (XIII) Final Provisions.
