Abstract
This Act, consisting of 26 sections divided into four Parts and completed by one Schedule, provides for the establishment of the Agricultural Produce Commission and defines its internal organization.
Functions of the Commission include: establish producers’ committees in relation to agricultural produce; appoint members to producers’ committees; and advertise for the formation of producers’ committees.
The Act prescribes preliminary requirements for the establishment of producer’s committees and defines their functions, which include: advertise and promote the agricultural produce; control or develop the means of controlling pests and diseases; conduct educational or instructional programmes relating to the production of agricultural produce; develop and expand markets for the agricultural produce in Western Australia and elsewhere; establish systems of inspection for the agricultural produce for the purpose of quality control or pest and disease control; and establish systems to facilitate inspection of grading, packaging and storage of the agricultural produce.
