Abstract
The Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Regulations 2013, implemented under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007, provide a comprehensive framework for managing biosecurity risks in Western Australia. These regulations address the identification, control, and eradication of declared pests, prohibited organisms, and potential carriers to prevent their introduction, spread, or harmful impact. They include provisions for keeping, breeding, cultivating, and transporting pests and potential carriers, along with requirements for permits, quarantine notices, and facility approvals. Measures for pest control include isolation, treatment, notification, and the use of biological agents, poisons, and traps. The regulations also stipulate standards for barrier fences and payment mechanisms related to pest detection and removal. Additionally, they outline procedures for inspecting conveyances, managing agricultural activities, and implementing industry funding schemes. The framework mandates compliance, penalties for violations, record-keeping, and reviews, ensuring stringent oversight of biosecurity to safeguard the region's agricultural integrity.
