Abstract
The purposes of this Act are: (a) to create a body corporate called the Director-General of Conservation, Forests and Lands, to define its powers and to transfer to it the functions of the Forests Commission, the Soil Conservation Authority and the Vermin and Noxious Weeds Destruction Board, and to abolish those bodies; (b) to provide a framework for a land management system and to make necessary administrative, financial and enforcement provisions; and (c) to establish a system of land management cooperative agreements. The overall objective of the Act is to provide the legislative framework for the effective conservation of the State’s lands, waters, flora and fauna and to make provision for their productive, educational and recreational use.
The Act consists of 120 sections and is divided into the following Parts: Preliminary (1); Administration (2); Property (3); Finance (4); Codes of Practice (5); Conservation Workers (6); Public Authorities (7); Land Management Cooperative Agreements (8); Traditional Owner Land Management Boards (8A); Enforcement and General Provisions (9); and Transitional Provisions (10).
