Abstract
This Act, consisting of 419 sections divided into nine Chapters, aims at encouraging and facilitating the safe production of geothermal energy, principally by providing for the granting of authorities (called ‘geothermal tenures’) to explore for or produce geothermal energy; and creating a regulatory system for the carrying out of activities relating to geothermal tenures. The Act also ensures the minimization of conflict with other land uses; constructive consultation with people affected by the activities; appropriate compensation for owners or occupiers of land adversely affected by the activities and a responsible land and resource management; and encourages the use of renewable energy in the State.
