Abstract
This Act sets up a system for regulating the exploration for or recovery of petroleum and the construction of petroleum-related works in offshore areas as defined in this Act and provides an effective regulatory framework for the injection and storage of greenhouse gas substances in offshore areas. An offshore area: (a) starts 3 nautical miles from the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured; and (b) extends seaward to the outer limits of the continental shelf. The Act provides for the grant of exploration and prospecting licences and the administration of this Act. One Chapter is dedicated to the restoration of the environment. The Designated Authority may require remedial actions to be carried out by (former) holders of permits, leases, licences, by authorities, etc.
