Abstract
The Timor Sea Maritime Boundaries Treaty Consequential Amendments Act 2019 (No. 57, 2019) amends various Australian laws to align with the provisions of the Timor Sea Maritime Boundaries Treaty. This Act addresses issues related to maritime boundaries and the management of natural resources in the Greater Sunrise special regime area. The Act transitions the management of certain oil and gas fields (notably the Greater Sunrise fields) from joint administration under the Timor Sea Treaty to arrangements defined by the Maritime Boundaries Treaty. Additionally, the Act amends the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 and the Building and Construction Industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016, among others, to ensure that the exploration and exploitation of natural resources in the continental shelf are appropriately regulated.
