Regulation No 61 of 9 May 2006 on the conditions and procedures for the identification of animals, registration of holdings and access to the database for identified animals and registered establishments.

This Regulation determines the exact terms and procedures for the identification of live animals; the terms and procedure for registration of animal holding based on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria; the type of ear tags and coding system; the rules governing over the procedure of entry/access to the relevant database for already identified animals and registered holdings; the minimum number of checks/inspection controls related to the identification of the animals.
These rules are aimed at ensuring the: animal health status and the safety of the products derived therefrom; control of contagious diseases, the presence of residues of veterinary medicinal products and technogenic contaminants; animals full tracking issues; implementation of the state preventive programme in that sector; application of restrictive measures for eradication of emerging infectious diseases.
The National Veterinary Service is here indicated as the official animal welfare authority that maintains a computerized information system for entering data on the identified animals, their owners and registered holdings.
