Abstract
This Order provides for the treatment of animals for slaughter and for the processing, sale, import or export, etc. of meat and meat products.
The Order prohibits the import, export or transhipment of any meat or meat products unless in possession of a licence and permit granted by the Director of Agriculture and Agrifood and unless the meat or meat products have been packaged, labelled, processed, etc in accordance with the conditions set out in the text. Procedures and requirements for obtaining licences and permits are set out in the Order.
The Order allows to carry out the slaughtering of animals only at licensed slaughtering centres or at premises permitted by the Director. The Order prescribes conditions that slaughtering centres must abide to for the marking, branding or tagging of carcasses.
The Order further provides for: powers of the Director to prohibit the slaughtering of animals unfit for human consumption; powers of the Director to close slaughtering centres, to require documents for inspection; etc.; offences; etc.
