Abstract
This Decree-Law, consisting of 7 Chapters, amends the Mining Code established by Decree-Law No. 1.985 of 29 January 1940. It lays down the requirements to be satisfied in order to perform mining activities for mineral extraction and defines the criteria for mines exploration and mineral deposits. This Code regulates: I - the rights over the individualized masses of mineral or fossil substances, found on the surface or in the interior of the earth forming the mineral resources of the Country; II - the regime for its use, and III - supervision by the Federal Government of research, mining and other aspects of the mineral industry. It establishes also the provisions in order to avoid radioactive and waste pollution.
