Abstract
This Act makes provision with respect to local government in the Bahamas. For the purposes of this Act, The Bahamas shall be divided into such number of local government districts as the Minister deems fit. Any district specified in the Second Schedule may be divided into town areas by the Minister. Every town area shall have a town committee and every district a district council, which shall be bodies corporate. Functions of town committees shall include general health and sanitation management and the upkeep and maintenance of public wells and water tanks. Functions of district councils include town and country planning and the public supply of water.
