Abstract
There is established an "International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize" (IMMARBE) for the registration under the flag of Belize of vessels of any type, class, size or weight engaged in any kind of trade, service or international maritime activity, including pleasure vessels (sect. 3). For the time being, the Solicitor General shall be the Registrar of Merchant Shipping (sect. 4). Any person of the age of majority may, a representative of such person, or a body corporate may register vessels in IMMARBE (sect. 5). Every vessel accepted for registration shall first be granted a provisional registration valid for one year (sect. 6). Section 7 specifies the documents necessary for registration. Sections 10 to 12 deal with transfer of vessels and mortgage on vessels and the registration thereof. Sections 13 to 17 provide particulars as to the registration of titles, mortgages, assignments and other documents relating to vessels. Every vessel registered in IMMARBE shall have at all times a shipping agent appointed by the ship owners (sect. 17). Section 18 allows for the dual registration of vessels registered in IMMARBE. Sections 21 and 22 provide for maritime liens. (26 sections and two Schedules listing fees and taxes)
