Abstract
The purpose of the present Law is to ensure the enforcement of the federal legislation on environment protection and to issue completing provisions on the subject matter. Article 2 establishes that “the polluter pays principle” is the basis of the Law unless there are some special cantonal rules. According to article 3 the Canton shall cooperate in all environmental issues with local authorities, as well as with neighbouring cantons and states. Moreover, the Canton may support or participate in projects and promote plants being useful to environment protection and are in the interest of the Canton. The text consists of 57 articles divided into 9 Parts as follows: General provisions (A); Protection against natural disasters (B); Protection against emissions (C); Waste disposal and waste management (D); Pollution of the soil (E); Enforcement and proceedings (F); Penalties (G); Amendment and repeal of existing legislation (H); Final provisions (I).
