Abstract
The above-mentioned Ordinance implements the Directive 2008/50/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2008 on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe. This Directive defines objectives for ambient air quality designed to avoid, prevent or reduce harmful effects on human health and the environment as a whole. At the outset the Ordinance contains a definition clause relating to terms therein employed such as, for example, “alert threshold”, «legal assessment», «metropolitan area», «emissions», «planned measures», «threshold value», «clean air programmes». The text consists of 36 articles divided into 8 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Emission values (2); Assessment of air quality (3); Monitoring of air quality (4); Plans (5); Information of the public (6); Emission ceilings; Clean air programmes of the federal government (7); Common provisions (8).
