Council Directive 2011/70/Euratom establishing a Community framework for the responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste.

This Directive sets out a European Community framework for ensuring responsible and safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste with a view to preventing both workers and the general public from dangers arising from ionizng radiation. It lays down specific provisions concerning the management of radioactive waste, from generation to disposal. The Directive requires Member States to establish a national legislative, regulatory and organizational framework in this field.
