Abstract
The present Directive lays down amendments and addenda to Council Directive 68/193/EEC on the marketing of material for the vegetative propagation of the vine. In accordance with article 3 of this Directive (which replaces article 5 of Directive 68/193/EEC), each Member State shall compile a catalogue of the vine varieties which have been officially accepted for certification and for checking as standard material within its territory. Such catalogue shall specify the main morphological and physiological characters by which the varieties may be distinguished one from another. It may be consulted by any person. On the basis of new article 5(a), Member States shall ensure that no variety is accepted unless it is distinct, stable and sufficiently uniform. The varieties accepted shall be officially checked at regular intervals. When any of the conditions for acceptance is no longer fulfilled, acceptance shall be revoked and the variety concerned shall be deleted from the catalogue.
