Abstract
The objective of this Directive is to approximate the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States and to protect human health and the environment when carrying out the deliberate release of genetically modified organisms into the environment, when placing on the market products containing, or consisting of, genetically modified organisms intended for subsequent deliberate release into the environment. Member States shall ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to avoid adverse effects on human health and the environment, which might arise from the deliberate release, or placing on the market of GMOs. Member States shall also designate the competent authority that shall organize inspections and other control measures as appropriate. Under Annex 1 are listed the techniques of genetic modification, Annex 2 refers to the information required in the notifications for a deliberate release and for placing on the market of GMOs.
