Maritime Transport Decree 2013 (No. 20 of 2013).

This Decree makes provisions with respect to a wide variety of matters relating to maritime transportation in Fiji waters (defined) and by ships owned by citizens of Fiji. It shall also apply in part to fishing vessels. Convention” or “Conventions” in relation to this Decree means such Conventions as listed under Schedule 1 and as may be declared for the purposes of this Decree. The Decree, among other things, provides with respect to liability of shipowners and marine pollution prevention and management, the plans and responses to protect the marine environment from marine spills, and the appointment of Port State Control Officers. The Decree establishes Marine Spill Pollution Advisory Committee and requires the Authority to establish and administer the National Oil Pollution Pool. The oil pollution levies payable under section 198, and any other money that is lawfully payable to the Pool, shall be paid into the Pool.
