Abstract
These Regulations implement Council Directive (EEC) 82/711 as amended, Council Directive (EEC) 85/572, Commission Directive (EEC) 90/128 as amended by Directive (EEC) 92/39 and other Community legislation. They lay down the basic rules for testing migration of certain constituents of plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. The Regulations prescribe limits for migration and contents in articles and lay down rules for tests by which migration is to be established. They prohibit the use, sale or importation of plastic materials, which do not meet the specified standards. They also prohibit the use of monomers in production of plastics other than authorized monomers. The materials and articles to which these Regulations relate are also subject to the Materials and Articles in Contact with Food Regulations 1992. Completed by 4 Schedules: authorized monomers; Supplementary (1); Additives; Supplementary (2); Provisions applicable when testing compliance with the migration limits (3); Overall and specific testing using food simulants(4).
