Abstract
This Law provides for public health in Georgia. Its purpose is to promote public health and healthy lifestyle practices, ensure environmental health, promote family reproductive health, and prevent the spread of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Basic principles of this Law shall be: a) to ensure necessary measures to prevent risks related to public health; b) to ensure explicit delineation of the competences of state authorities in the field of public health and their close informative coordination in planning and implementation of health care measures; c) to ensure explicit delineation of powers of state authorities and of local self-government bodies in the field of public health; and d) to protect public health by adherence to human rights and fundamental freedoms, as provided for by the international agreements and treaties of Georgia and the legislation of Georgia.
