Abstract
This Act regulates the planting, cultivation and felling of vine; the production, storage and distribution of must, wine and brandy; and the administrative duties and competencies related to viticulture and wine production. The Act distinguishes, per climatic, geological and planted varieties, between wine production areas (divided into districts), wine production sub-districts and other less important areas of wine production. There are detailed provisions regarding oenological practices and quality requirements for must, wine and brandy. Quality wines can be marked with state control stamps, and special quality wines, belonging to the "Bull's blood" type, must bear such stamps. Provisions regarding import and export are also included. Section VI deals with special rules related to "delimited wine production areas" which are defined as areas which products are worthy of special protection and require special rules on cultivation, wine production, oenological practices and distribution. Wine growers' associations, the National Wine Quality Institute and the National Institute for Agricultural Quality Control are the authorities responsible for administration of viticulture and the wine production industry. The Act contains sanctions and penalties.
