Inland Fisheries Act 2010.

Type of law
Date of original text

This Act establishes Inland Fisheries Ireland and defines its functions. Inland Fisheries Ireland will replace the existing Central Fisheries Board and seven Regional Fisheries Boards and will perform the existing functions of those bodies. The Act also includes various provisions formerly included in the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act 1959, Fisheries Act 1980, Fisheries (Amendment) Act 1999 and the Fisheries (Amendment) Act 2000 which deal with administrative and legal matters concerning inland fisheries. The Act also otherwise modernizes the administration of inland fisheries and rules applying to inland fisheries.
Like the (amended) Fisheries (Consolidation) Act 1959, this Act confers powers on the Minister to make Bye-laws for the government, management, protection and improvement of fisheries. The Act re-introduces a national scheme of tagging of wild salmon and sea trout and provides enforcement of the scheme and allows the Minister, by Order, to prohibit the sale of certain fish and certain fishing gear.
