Abstract
The Act focuses on the protection, conservation, and regulation of wildlife, including setting restrictions on hunting and fishing activities, defining protected species and areas, regulating permits for capture and trade, and establishing penalties for violations related to illegal hunting, fishing, and wildlife trafficking. In particular, the legislation establishes the Fishing and Hunting Organization (which has been replaced by the Department of Environment in 1971). The Organization’s responsibilities include to formulate and implement the applicable regulations, reserve the hunting grounds, conduct research and training programmes, create the protected areas and zoos, as well as to cooperate with domestic and international agencies. Any hunting and fishing in the country is permitted only with a license issued by the Organization. Hunting and fishing in protected areas or in prohibited times and with prohibited instruments will be punished by fine or imprisonment. The Act consists of 32 articles.
