Presidential Decree No. 187 updating provisions concerning the production and marketing of flour and pasta, in accordance with article 50 of Act No. 146 of 22 February 1994.

The Presidential Decree is divided into three parts. Part I deals with flour requirements. Wheat flour and wholemeal wheat flour may be placed on the market only when they fulfill the requirements specified by article 1, with exception to flour used for purposes other than bread production. Article 2, on the other hand, refers to durum wheat flour. In accordance with article 3, the labels of mixtures obtained through cereals other than wheat must indicate the specific cereals that have been used. Organic or inorganic additives cannot be added to flour. Treatments with physical and chemical agents are prohibited. Article 5 lays down standards in matter of packaging. Part II of the Decree regards pasta. Pasta may be marketed only when it meets the characteristics prescribed by art 6. Articles 7-9 take account of special types of pasta. Article 13 sets out penalties.
