Abstract
These Regulations lay down detailed rules relative to the fishing with towed nets, trawls, including a Danish seine or similar towed net, so-called passive gear and other specified dredges and devices attached to nets. “Passive gear” means specified gillnets, entangling nets or trammel nets. The Regulations set out the target species of sea fish for each range of mesh size of towed nets in Schedule 1. It places restrictions on the use of certain nets and on the landing of fish caught with nets of a specified mesh size. Target species of sea fish for each range of mesh size of passive gear are set out in Schedule 5. Restrictions are placed on transhipment of fish and the chemical or physical processing on board for purposes of producing fishmeal, oil or similar products is prohibited. Methods for the measuring of mesh size of trawls and passive gear and of the twine thickness are prescribed.
