Abstract
The present Regulation aims to promote the profitability and competitiveness of the aquaculture industry within the framework of sustainable development and contribute to value creation along the coast. It also aims to promote good health among aquaculture animals, macroalgae, and aquatic plants and to ensure good welfare for fish, and to prevent and limit pollution and waste problems from the operation of aquaculture facilities. The Regulation applies to Norwegian land territory and territorial waters, on the continental shelf, and in Norway's economic zone. Operations shall be technically, biologically, and environmentally sound, and shall ensure health and welfare standards for fish. Aquaculture with species not naturally found in the area is prohibited.
The Regulation contains 70 sections organized in the following chapters: 1. Purpose, Scope, and Definitions; 2. General Requirements; 3. Specific Requirements for Fish Production; 4. Additional Requirements for Broodstock and Food Fish Production; 5. Additional Requirements for the Production of Juvenile Fish and Fish for Cultivation; 6. Special Requirements for the Production of Mollusks, Crustaceans, Echinoderms, Tunicates, and Aquatic Plants; 7. Final Provisions.
