Federal Law No. 280-FZ on Organic Production.

This Federal Law regulates relations dealing with processing, storage, transportation, labelling and trade of organic production. It shall not be applicable medicines, forest seeds, products of hunting and fish products (except for aquaculture products). Organic products shall be considered ecologically clean agricultural commodities, raw materials and foodstuffs complying with the requirements set forth by this Federal Law. The following requirements shall be met in the process of manufacturing of organic production: (a) separate manufacturing of organic production from non-organic production; (b) prohibition of application of agrochemicals, pesticides, antibiotics, plant growth stimulants and animal fattening stimulators, hormonal preparations except for those authorized for application in the sphere of organic production; (c) prohibition of use of GMO; (d) prohibition of hydroponic method of plant cultivation; (e) prohibition of use of ionizing radiation; (f) application of plant protection methods based on protection of entomophages, selection of optimum plant cultivation methods and thermic treatment methods of organic production; (g) selection of animal breeds resistant to animal diseases; (h) use of the authorized food additives; (i) use of biological microorganisms traditionally used in processing of foodstuffs; (j) prohibition of mixed storage and transportation of organic and non-organic production; and (k) prohibition of use for transport and consumer packaging materials, including polyvinylchloride, that could contaminate organic production and environment. Certification of compliance of organic production with the established requirements shall be carried out in the form of voluntary certification. Unified state register or the manufacturers of organic production shall be set up and administered by the competent federal executive body. Manufacturers of organic production, subject to certification of compliance of organic production with the established requirements, shall be authorized to label organic production with a distinctive graphic symbol and inscription. Manufacturers of organic production shall be granted state support.
