Abstract
This Act establishes the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority to administer, regulate, co-ordinate and oversee maritime affairs and for matters connected therewith. The Act, which is articulated in seven parts, describes, in its second Part, the Authority's functions in details among which is to ensure the protection of the marine environment and the prevention of pollution from ships and the response to marine environment incidents; to assist the implementation of the national oil spill contingency plan; to conduct port State control inspections.
The following third and fourth Parts regulate the functioning, powers and composition of the Authority and provides for the appeals to it.
Part five is dedicated to the financial provisions, from its funding to its audits. The following Part sets rules for the transfer of employees while the next, an last, Part provides for miscellaneous rules.
