Abstract
The Act is divided in the followong Parts: Preliminary (I); Prevention of Pollution from Land and Apparatus (II); Prevention of Pollution from Ships (III); Preventive Measures against Pollution of the Sea (IV); Recovery of costs (V); Miscellaneous Provisions (VI).
The Act provides for the prevention, control and application of measures against marine pollution from both domestic and industrial or ship-related pollution.
The Act gives the Maritime and Port Authority the power to take preventive measures to prevent pollution, including denying entry or detaining ships.

An Act to give effect to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 1973 as modified and added to by the Protocol of 1978, and to other international agreements relating to the prevention, reduction and control of pollution of the sea and pollution from ships; to make provisions generally for the protection of the marine environment and for the prevention, reduction and control of pollution of the sea and pollution from ships, and for matters related thereto.
