Abstract
The aim of this Act is to establish a biosafety system to prevent and reduce the risks that resulting from biotechnology, genetically modified organisms and products to protect human, animal and plant health, to protect the environment and biological diversity; and to ensure sustainability. The Act sets forth the rules and procedures on the establishement and implementation of a biosafety system. It covers provisions on research, improvement, processing, use, transfer, storage, packeging and labelling, import and export of genetically modified organisms and products. The Act further encloses provisions on risk assesment, risk management and defines the powers and duties of the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock, the responsible committee and its duties. This Act does not cover provisions on veterinary products, human medicinal products and cosmetic products.
