Abstract
This Regulation provides for the safe management of radioactive waste and spent fuels and unclaimed radioactive substances generated during the conduct of activities related to nuclear energy and ionizing radiation. Chapter II sets out principles, general provisions and responsibilities regarding the safe management of radioactive waste and spent fuel, such as: protection of employees, public, the environment and future generations; prohibition of release of radioactive waste into the environment; control of radioactive waste generation and reduction of radioactive waste; transparency; graduated approach; safety and nuclear assurance; minimum requirements of management plans of radioactive waste and spent fuels; inventory of radioactive waste and spent fuels; management of radioactive waste resulting from radiation emergencies; and the accreditation of laboratories, measurement and analyzes.
Chapter III lays down provisions regarding characterization, classification, processing, packaging, transportation, storage and disposal of radioactive wastes. Chapter IV determines rules relating to registration and reporting on radioactive waste and spent fuel. The Nuclear Regulatory Authority shall be responsible for supervising radioactive waste and spent fuel management activities within the scope of this Regulation. Administrative sanctions shall be imposed on those who violate the provisions of this Regulation, the relevant legislation and the decisions and instructions of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
