Abstract
This Prime Minister's Decision No.1671/QD-TTg approves the Program for Conservation and Sustainable Use of General Resources by 2025, with a Vision toward 2030. The vision toward to 2030 is set up in the Program as: continue to collect, introduce, preserve and protect the National Gene Fund; evaluate, effectively exploit and sustainably develop valuable genetic resources for application in agriculture, industry, medicine - pharmacy, environmental protection etc.; the member organizations of the National Gene Fund Network can continue to improve the potential of technical facilities and human resources of science and technology, and many member organizations may reach advanced levels in the region and the world.
The tasks proposed in the Program include: 1. Research and application of science and technology in the conservation and sustainable use of biological genetic resources: a) Collect and safely store biological genetic resources, b) Evaluation and documentation of genetic resources of scientific and applied value, c) Genetic assessment of genetic resources, d) Exploitation and sustainable use of genetic resources with application value; 2. Investment in material and technical facilities; 3. Building the national gene fund database system by collecting and systematizing data on genetic resources in each member organization of the National Gene Fund Network and applying information technology to build a national gene fund database to meet the requirements of updating and exchanging information conveniently; etc.
The State invests in building material and technical foundations for science and technology organizations in the National Gene Fund Network, in which focus is placed on the National Plant Gene Bank and the Center for Research on Genetic Resources, the National Botanical Garden, the National Center for Animal Genetic Resources, the National Center for Aquatic Genetic Resources, and the National Microbial Gene Bank, national medicinal plant varieties, etc. The State encourages enterprises, organizations and individuals to invest resources in the conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources.
