Abstract
This Decree, consisting of 14 articles, establishes the National Policy on Organic Farming - PNAPO. The above mentioned National Policy aims at the integration and harmonisation of policies, programmes and activities related to ecological agriculture and organic farming. The Policy objectives deal with the sustainable development and use of the natural resources in agricultural sector in order to improve the livelihoods of its population through sustainable use of natural resources and supply and consumption of healthy foods.
This policy has as its main implementing tool the PLANAPO, which will be implemented by appropriations in the budget of the agencies and entities involved in programs and activities. It will be implemented by the union in cooperation agreements with States, Federal districts and Municipalities, civil society organizations and other private entities. Among its functions is to promote food security and nutrition; the human right to adequate and healthy food through the supply of organic and agroecological products free from contaminants that may endanger health; conserve natural ecosystems and recompose modified ecosystems through agricultural production systems and forest extraction based on renewable resources, with the adoption of methods and cultural, biological and mechanical practices that reduce waste, pollution and dependence on external inputs for production.
