Abstract
These Regulations, issued in pursuance to article 22 of the Law concerning Plant Protection Products, provide for harmonising Cyprus Legislation with the Directive 2009/128/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for Community action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides. The Regulations define the following relevant terms: aerial spraying of pesticides; agricultural medicinal product, including: plant protection products as defined in the European Legislation, and biocides according to the National Legislation; risk assessment and impact of pesticides use on human health and the environment; distributor of pesticides; agricultural pesticide application equipment; surface water; groundwater; non-chemical and alternative methods for plant protection; integrated plant protection.
The provisions of these Regulations apply to agricultural drugs, used as plant protection products. Matters covered by these Regulations include: definition of national action plans; protection of the environment; indicators to monitor the use of plant protection products containing herbicides; appropriate training for users and distributors of pesticides; certificate granting system; regular inspection of agricultural equipment used for agricultural medicinal products; restriction on the use of certain pesticides; protection of the aquatic environment and of drinking water supplies; measures for the assessment of the impact and the damage on water resources; specific measures for packaging and disposal of agricultural waste and pesticide residues; pest management interventions; incentives for professional users.
