Abstract
This Act regulates the release of genetically modified organisms into the environment for a purpose other than placing on the market; placing on the market of genetically modified organisms, and products containing or composed of such organisms; and the handling of GM crops. Its purposes include to prevent possible adverse effects to human health and the environment upon release of genetically modified organisms into the environment or upon placing genetically modified organisms on the market and to ensure safe application of genetic engineering and the development thereof in an ethically responsible manner; and to prevent the admixture of non-GM crops and GM crops and the unintended presence of genetically modified organisms in other products.
