Abstract
This Directive lays down health requirements for meat products intended for intra-Community trade. Each Member State shall ensure that only meat products complying with the conditions of the Directive are sent from its territory to the territory of another Member State. They must have been prepared in an establishment approved and inspected in accordance with article 6. Each Member State shall draw up a list of the establishments approved by it and having a veterinary approval number. The States shall send this list to the other Member States and to the Commission experts. The Commission shall carry out regular inspections of the approved establishments to ensure that the latter in fact apply this Directive. In Annex A are set the conditions for the approval of establishments manufacturing meat products including chapters, among others, on hygiene requirements, requirements for fresh meat, provisions on the supervision of products, packaging and storage. This Directive has been amended many times but still remains in force. (23 articles and 1 Annex)
