Law of Georgia on the Admission and Propagation of Varieties of Agricultural Crops Subject to Mandatory Certification (No. 913-IIS of 2017)

The Law regulates the admission for distribution of agricultural crop varieties subject to mandatory certification and establishes requirements applicable to seed and planting material associated with those varieties. It defines the scope of application, sets out relevant terminology, and determines the conditions under which varieties may be admitted for distribution within the territory of Georgia, including their inclusion in the national catalogue.
It provides for the examination and evaluation of varieties, including criteria relating to distinctness, uniformity and stability, as well as testing of agricultural value where required. It regulates the certification of seed and planting material, including field inspection, laboratory testing, and control procedures, and establishes obligations for persons engaged in their production and marketing.
The Law further sets out requirements relating to the quality and labelling of certified seed and planting material, including conditions for packaging and information accompanying treated material. It designates the competent authorities responsible for implementation and enforcement, and establishes administrative liability and sanctions for non-compliance with certification and labelling requirements.
