Abstract
This Law regulates the procedure for the protection of designations of origin and geographical indications of agricultural products and foodstuffs at the national level; governs the procedure for protection of traditional specialty designation at national level; governs the process of applying for registration of designations of origin and geographical indications of agricultural products and foodstuffs on the level of the European Union; governing the application process for the registration mark of the traditional reputation on level of the European Union; governing official controls and determining compliance with the specification of the product.
The Law further provides for standards and requirements for obtaining certain registrations and markings, measures for offences and penalties.
The provisions of this Law shall not apply to products of the winemaking sector, except the vinegar, also not to the spirits.
Annex I, II, III and IV form an integral part of this Law, containing a full list of products and genres.

Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette, except for the provision of article 36 paragraph 1 of this Act, that shall come into force on the day of entrance of Croatian Republic into the European Union.
Notes
With the entry into force of this Law, the provisions of article 83 paragraphs 3, 4 and 5, article 86 Paragraph 5, article 97 to 122, article 126 paragraph 1 subparagraph 4 to 15, article 132 and article 135 of the Food Act (Official Gazette 46/07) will be no longer in force.
