Abstract
These Regulations implement Community legislation that seeks to reinforce and improve the effectiveness of port State control through establishing a new inspection regime relating to standards for ship safety, pollution prevention and shipboard living and working conditions. The Marine Survey Office is designated as the competent authority in the State for the purposes of these Regulations and Directive 2009/16/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on port State control. The competent authority shall ensure that inspections are carried out in accordance with these Regulations and shall select ships for inspection based on the ships’ risk profiles.
