Law 150/1992 concerning crimes relevant to the application in Italy of the Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna, and of the EEC Regulation No. 3626/82, and also making provisions for the trade and keeping of dangerous or harmful animals and reptiles.

This Act amends Ministerial Decree of 31 December 1983, which implements EC Regulation No. 3626/82 regarding the application of the Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna. For the purpose of implementing the principles of the Convention, the Act forbids the import, export, sale, keeping or transport of live or dead specimens (belonging to the species listed out in Annex A, Appendixes II and III and Annex C, Part 2 of EC Regulation No. 3626/82) of wild flora and fauna, parts or products thereof, and establishes penalties to be inflicted in case of contravention. Article 6 forbids the trade and keeping of live specimens of wild mammals and reptiles that could be harmful to health and public safety and also of species that suffer a high death rate during transport. A list of the said species shall be provided by a Decree of the Ministry of the Environment to be enacted within 180 days from the entry into force of the present Act. Compulsory notification to the appropriate authority of the Forest Officers is required from whoever is in possession of the said species at the date of the entry into force of the present Act. Article 5, paragraph 5 establishes the marking of specimens in compliance with the international standards approved by the CITES Certification Service of the Forest Officers. The Act does not apply to zoos and aquariums.
