Abstract
This Act concerns the control of the import and export of goods and for the regulation of the standards of exportable goods in Sri Lanka. No person shall import or export from Sri Lanka any goods except under authority of a licence issued under this Act by the Controller (sect. 1). The Controller shall have full power and discretion to issue or refuse a licence to an applicant (sect. 7). The Minister may, by regulation, prohibit or regulate the importation or exportation of goods specified (sect. 14). The Principal Collector of Customs shall have the power to confiscate any goods that are imported or exported in contravention of the provisions of this Act (sect. 15). Section 17 relates to penalties for offences committed under this Act.
