Abstract
The Law prescribes the procedures for waste management in Latvia. Its purpose is to protect the environment, human life and health by preventing the generation of waste, ensuring separate collection and regeneration of waste generated in the territory of Latvia, as well as by facilitating efficient use of natural resources and by reducing the amount of waste to be disposed of. According to the Law, waste management must be performed in such a way as not to threaten human life and health. Also, waste management may not negatively affect the environment, including cause threats to the water, air, soil, as well as plants and animals; cause a nuisance through noise or odours; negatively affect the countryside and specially protected nature territories; and pollute or litter the environment.
