Abstract
This Act concerns waste management and amends certain acts in accordance with the requirements and provisions set in this Act. The Act consists of six articles, the first of which is divided into 82 paragraphs. As indicated in art. I paragraph 1 "the Act regulates the operation of state administration bodies and municipalities, the rights and obligations of legal entities and individuals while preventing waste generation and in waste handling, the accountability for failure to comply with the obligations in the field of waste management and the establishment of the Recycling Fund".
The Act is divided into the following parts: introductory provisions; waste management plans; operation of state administration in waste management and obligation of legal entities and individuals in waste management; imports, exports and transit of wastes; handling of wastes; treatment of end-of-life vehicles; recycling fund; state administration bodies in waste management, municipalities and their operation; accountability for failure to comply with obligations; interim and final provisions. The Act is completed by eight annexes: wastes; waste recovery; disposal of wastes; properties of wastes which render them hazardous; limit concentration values of harmful substances in waste; wastes requiring stabilization prior to disposal in landfill; batteries and accumulators to which the Act applies; list of categories of appliance exempted from the scope of the Act.

Entry into force notes
This Act shall enter into force on 1 July 2001 except certain paragraphs as indicated in Article VI.

This Act repeals the 2. Act of the Slovak National Council No. 494/1991 Coll. on State Administration in Waste Management, as amended.The Act also repeals 5. Order of the Government of the Slovak Republic No. 605/1992 Coll. on Keeping Records of Wastes and 6. Order of the Government of the Slovak Republic No. 606/1992 Coll. on Waste Handling.
