Abstract
An Act to regulate the fish industry in Tanzania. The 18 articles of the Act are divided into 6 Parts: Preliminary (I); Officers (II); Development and Control of the Fishing Industry (III); Regulations (IV); Offences (V); Miscellaneous Provisions (VI).
The Minister may, by Order published in the Gazette, provide that no person shall engage in fishing or the production, marketing or importation and exportation of fish and fish products without a licence (art. 4). The Minister may declare "controlled areas" (art. 5). Licences should be granted preferably to citizens of Tanzania (art. 6). Regulation making powers of the Minister are specified in article 7. Part V contains several provisions on enforcement measures.

Notes
The Fisheries Ordinance (Cap. 295) and the Trout Protection Ordinance (Cap. 368) are repealed. The provisions of this Act shall prevail over any provision of by-laws made by local authorities (art. 16).
