Law No. 2894-III of 2001 on wildlife.

Wildlife is one of the principal environmental components, national resource of Ukraine, the basis of spiritual and aesthetic education of the population, of scientific research, important source of industrial and medicinal raw materials, food products and other material resources. The document consists of IX Secs. that contain 64 Arts. Section I (arts. 1-10) lays down general provisions. Section II (Arts. 11-15) establishes state institutions in the sphere of protection, management and conservation of wildlife and their plenary powers. Section III (Arts. 16-35) regards management of wildlife species. Section IV (Arts. 36-54) regards protection of wildlife. Section V (Arts. 55-56) regards monitoring, state registration and state cadastre of wildlife species. Section VI (Arts. 57-62) establishes control in the sphere of protection, management and conservation of wildlife. Section VII (art. 63) establishes liability for the infringement of wildlife legislation. Section VIII (Arts. 64) regards international activity of Ukraine in the sphere of protection, management and conservation of wildlife. Section IX lays down final provisions. The state register of wild fauna species includes geospatial data, metadata, disclosure, other activities with access to the aforesaid information and data through internet. The users of the wild fauna species, who carry out hunting and fishing, are also obliged to immediately inform the environmental protection authorities and veterinary services about the detection of animal diseases, the deterioration of their habitat, the risk of destruction and death of wild fauna species, to carry out comprehensive preventive measures and fight against diseases. Liability for violations of legislation in the field of protection, use and reproduction of wild fauna species entails administrative, civil or criminal liability according to the acting legislation.
