Abstract

This Order provides for giving effect in Brunei Darussalam to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified and added to by the Protocol of 1978 by preventing, reducing and controlling pollution of the sea and from ships in order to protect the marine environment.
The Order further provides for: prohibition of discharge of oil from any apparatus used to transfer oil from or to a ship; prohibition of discharge of oil, refuse, garbage, waste, effluents, plastics, noxious liquid substances and dangerous pollutants from ships; preventive measures against pollution of the sea; the keeping of oil record books on board of ships; the duty to report discharges of harmful substances from ships; powers of inspection; offences and penalties; etc.
