Law No. 14.675 establishing the Environmental Code within the State of Santa Catarina.

This Law, consisting of 296 articles divided into seven Titles, establishes the Basic Environmental Legislation within the State of Santa Catarina. The objectives of the State Environmental Policy are: protect and improve the quality of the environment for present and future generations; recover degraded areas; ensure the adequate and sustainable use of environmental resources; generate social and economic benefits; promote cooperation between municipalities and the adoption of joint solutions; protect and recover ecological processes aimed at the reproduction and maintenance of biodiversity; establish criteria and standards of environmental quality and norms regarding the use and management of environmental resources; promote dissemination and training programmes for the use and management of environmental resources in rural properties. This Code also creates competent authorities entitled to carry out research and inspection related to this sector. It does not apply for any activity related to: environmental education; water resources; and water sanitation. It is divided as follows: General provisions (Title I); State Environmental Policy (Title II); Concepts and definitions (Title III); State Policy instruments (Title IV); Natural resources management (Title V); Activities potentially causing environmental degradation (Title VI); Final provisions (Title VII).
